Grocery Shopping Guide

The key to staying on track during the week and making it through your busiest days is simply being prepared. Having a game plan for your weekly meals is so important. What I found worked best for me in the beginning, was to take note of my favorite meals through experimenting with meals from plans like Tone It Up and trying tons of new recipes that inspired me on social media. Remember, experimenting to find the meals that work for you is something you have to do. Everyone is different and what meals we like is unique to each person, so trying out all different meals until you find what works for you is the best way to keep yourself on track and excited for making meals at home. Once I found my go to meals, snacks and desserts this is how I plan for them each week:

Personally, I hate meal prepping for an entire week at a time. I find that when I do this I waste a ton of food or wind up ordering out because I get stressed and hate being confined to a meal I chose days prior. Instead, I like to shop with ‘ingredient ideas’ that I know can be used for multiple different meals that I like to eat.

To the right is what my shopping list that I bring with me typically looks like. You’ll see that I don’t shop for meals, I shop for ingredients. For example: I know that I can use tofu and veggies in tacos, in a stir fry or as a tray bake. That’s 3 different meal options right there just with a few ingredients.

PS if you can’t get your shopping done on Sundays, don’t stress! Most weeks I like to get my shopping done on Monday mornings. I like to keep my Sundays as a chill day and then go full force on my Monday morning. Again - this is all unique to what works for you!

Breakfast ideas:

— Eggs with Avocado and gluten free toast

— Chia pudding with berries and almond butter

— Overnight oats with berries and almond butter

— Nutrition packed smoothie -  avocado, mango, spinach, flax seeds, almond butter, almond milk, protein powder and ice

— Berry Smoothie with a side of avocado toast

Lunch ideas:

— A greek salad is a go to, feel free to sub out onions and add chickpeas…whatever works for you. Make it your own! Check out my instagram post for some in depth details on how I like to create these ——>

— I looove tuna salads. So simple and yummy … I use Primal Kitchen mayo (little pro tip: add a bit of Dijon mustard for extra flavor!) and love adding the tuna to the top of a salad (Greek Salad + Tuna is a fave) or on a sandwich!

— You can always make a simple sandwich with any turkey or chicken that you love with avocado, a little spicy mayo (again, I love primal kitchen for this) and some lettuce - delish!

— Another Favorite lighter meal for lunch is a slice of gluten free toast with mozzarella and tomato. You can spice it up with a dressing/spread if you want a little extra flavor.

Snack ideas:

— cucumber with beets topped with everything but the bagel seasoning and feta cheese

— carrot chips and celery with hummus

— simple mills crackers with hummus

— light smoothie

— apple with cheese

— grapes

— These spinach balls linked here are amazing and a great snack to pack and eat on their own or grab anything you want to dip them in.

Dinner ideas:

— My favorite go to Dinner Salad — click here (it can also be used for a lunch salad!) I made this one with my sesame salmon. I use the sesame salmon for plenty of other meals like along side a tray bake or just a plate of fish, sweet potatoes and avocado when I want just a quick light dinner.

— Tofu Cashew Cream Tacos (shown in the video to the right!) - you can use this cashew cream for anything!! It tastes really great if you use the leftovers for a stir fry dinner the next night - click here

— Veggie Stir Fry - I love doing mushrooms, broccoli, snap peas, carrots (and anything else you want!) adding a serving of rice while it all cooks and then the cashew cream would be delicious

— Veggie Tacos - Lastly, using the Siete Tortilla Wraps I love making any kind of tacos that sound good to me! A go to is sweet potato and zucchini in the oven placed over cabbage and spicy mayo in a taco. So good!

Dessert ideas:

— For dessert I love anything chocolate like a Hu Kitchen chocolate bar — sometimes I will melt it down and dip fruit into the chocolate

— I also like cutting dates in half, drizzling them with almond butter and a square of chocolate — so satisfying!

— Avocado Pudding has been a new staple dessert for me. It’s so simple to make and I even have a blog post all about it
