First Vacation as Mom and Dad!

Okay at 10 months old, we left our baby for the first time and went on vacation as Mom & Dad !!

It was such a weird feeling getting to the airport and not having her with us, felt like I was forgetting something the whole time lol. But some things we did to prepare for the trip so that we could really relax while being gone (because if you stress the whole time, what’s the point?!) and things we did to make sure Harper was comfortable too!

My parents were watching her for us — literally grandparents of the year!! — so to prepare Harper for the change, we made sure to get to their house days before the trip (I think we got to them a week early to be exact) so that she could get accustomed to them doing parts of her day and nighttime routine as well as getting her comfy with the new location.

Something that was really reassuring was that Harper is on such a good, steady schedule throughout the day and night now so I knew that there wasn’t too much to worry about in that department. If you’re able to get your baby on a steady schedule, it makes it so much easier to leave for a few days! I also worked hard to release any control I was feeling about the weekend away. I made peace with the fact that my parents might ‘parent’ in a different way than we do and thats okay! It’s great for her to get a chance to experience other people and ways of doing things.

Once we left the house, I had slight anxiety about leaving but it slowly dissipated and we were really able to settle in and enjoy our weekend away. It was SO nice to have time to ourselves to reconnect, catch up on sleep and not have a set schedule for a few days — highly recommend carving out some time for you! It gave me such a new appreciation for all of the tasks that come with taking care of a baby. I have had so much more gratitude for every single moment since getting back from our trip!

PS Harper loves us just the same as she did be fore we left :)
